CAIRO, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – Egypt’s international reserves climbed to a record $57.2145 billion at the end of August 2026. The Central Bank of Egypt announced this preliminary figure on September 7. At the end of July, reserves stood at $56.2939 billion. During August, reserves increased by roughly $920.6 million, or about 1.6%. This latest figure continues a trend of monthly gains in 2026 and pushes Egypt’s official foreign reserves above $57 billion for the first time.

Egypt reserves set new record at $57.2 billion in August
Egypt’s net international reserves reached a record $57.2 billion in August 2026.

Compared to August 2025, the total reserves are $7.9638 billion higher than the $49.2507 billion recorded then. This shows an annual growth of approximately 16.2%. Egypt ended December 2025 with net international reserves of $51.4516 billion. Over the first eight months of 2026, reserves have increased by about $5.76 billion, or 11.2%. Official monthly data indicate that reserve levels have risen every month since January, with continuous growth through August.

The rate of reserve accumulation accelerated in mid-2026. Reserves reached $53.1342 billion in May, then increased to $55.0723 billion in June. July saw a rise to $56.2939 billion, and August further grew to $57.2145 billion. The increase from May to June was roughly $1.94 billion. July added about $1.22 billion, and August contributed around $920.6 million. These three months together added over $4 billion to Egypt’s foreign reserve stockpile.

    Foreign currency inflows stay strong

Remittances from Egyptians abroad reached a record high during the 2025/2026 fiscal year. The Central Bank of Egypt reported inflows of about $47.3 billion for the period. This was a 29.6% increase compared to roughly $36.5 billion in the previous year. In June alone, remittances hit about $4.2 billion. That’s 15.6% higher than the approximately $3.6 billion recorded in June 2025, based on official data released in August.

Egypt’s latest available balance of payments figures cover July through March of the 2025/2026 fiscal year. During those nine months, the overall balance showed a deficit of $1.8 billion. The capital and financial account registered net inflows of $9.9 billion. Meanwhile, the current account posted a deficit of $14.6 billion. These figures offer the most recent official overview of Egypt’s external financial situation before the August reserves update.

Monthly reserve records continue to be broken

Throughout 2026, Egypt’s reserve totals reached several new high points. Reserves hit $52.5938 billion in January, then increased to $52.7455 billion in February. In March, they climbed to $52.8306 billion. April saw a rise to $53.0092 billion, followed by $53.1342 billion in May. The reserves surpassed $55 billion in June, then $56 billion in July, and finally $57 billion in August. The August figure is provisional, aligning with the standard for the latest reserve updates.

Compared to a year earlier, Egypt’s reserves in August are nearly $8 billion higher. The country has now recorded three consecutive months with totals above $55 billion. July marked the first time reserves exceeded $56 billion, and August the first above $57 billion. Since December 2025, the reserve stock has grown by over 10%. The August figure sets a new record for Egypt’s net international reserves, continuing the steady monthly rise seen throughout 2026.
