ABU DHABI / RankWire.AI / – Etihad Airways plans to introduce seasonal nonstop flights between Abu Dhabi and Gothenburg on December 17, 2026. These flights will run four times a week until March 21, 2027. The route connects the UAE capital with Sweden’s second-largest city during the winter travel season. Tickets for the new Abu Dhabi to Gothenburg service are already on sale. The flights will operate between Zayed International Airport and Göteborg Landvetter Airport.

This route marks Gothenburg’s first direct air link with the United Arab Emirates. It also creates the city’s first nonstop connection to the Middle East and Asia. Travelers from western Sweden can connect through Abu Dhabi to destinations across India and Asia. The new service offers direct access to Abu Dhabi for passengers departing from the Gothenburg region. Gothenburg’s airport, Göteborg Landvetter Airport, serves the city and the larger western Sweden area.
Etihad Airways will operate the route using an Airbus A321LR configured for 160 passengers. The aircraft has two First Suites, 14 Business seats and 144 Economy seats. Both First and Business class seats convert into fully flat beds and offer direct aisle access. Economy seats come with 13.3-inch 4K touchscreen entertainment systems. The aircraft provides high-speed Wi-Fi in all three cabins. The A321LR is a long-range narrow-body aircraft added to the airline’s fleet.
New Route Broadens One-Stop Travel Options Across Asia
The Gothenburg schedule connects with several onward flights via Abu Dhabi. These include destinations like Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, Singapore, Hanoi, Bali, Shanghai, Taipei, Bengaluru and Colombo. The airline plans to land the Gothenburg flight in Abu Dhabi in the evening. Passengers can then access the airline’s extensive network from its hub. Eligible travelers can also join the Abu Dhabi Stopover program, which offers hotel stays of up to two nights.
Gothenburg is the 15th new destination launched by the airline in 2026. The city, located on Sweden’s west coast, is known for its industrial, research, and commercial activity. It also serves as a gateway to the surrounding region and nearby archipelago. Swedavia, which manages Göteborg Landvetter Airport, has emphasized travel links between western Sweden and Asian markets. The company also mentioned high demand for business trips and visits from relatives and friends.
Airbus A321LR Will Offer Four Weekly Flights to Gothenburg
CEO Antonoaldo Neves stated that the A321LR enables the airline to provide its three-cabin product on the Gothenburg route. He also noted that industry and research are key aspects of the city. Swedavia’s CEO, Mats Johannesson, said the new service will strengthen regional links with the Middle East, India, and Southeast Asia. He described it as Gothenburg’s first direct connection to the UAE. Both leaders confirmed this as part of their announcement on August 12.
The seasonal flights will run four times per week during the winter schedule. The last flight is scheduled for March 21, 2027. The new route creates a direct connection between Sweden and the UAE, offering Gothenburg travelers access to Abu Dhabi and onward destinations. During the season, UAE travelers will have a nonstop option to western Sweden. The schedule, aircraft type, and operating dates remain exactly as announced on August 12, 2026, following the route launch announcement.
