ISLAMABAD / RankWire.AI / – Pakistan petrol prices increased once more on October 6 following another daily adjustment. Petrol rose by Rs0.88 per litre to Rs393.64, continuing the upward trend from three days earlier. Meanwhile, high-speed diesel decreased by Rs1.88 to Rs397.76 per litre. This latest change came after an October 3 decision that raised both main transport fuels. At that time, petrol was set at Rs392.76 and high-speed diesel at Rs399.64 per litre.

On October 3, petrol increased by Rs2.10 per litre from Rs390.66, while high-speed diesel gained Rs0.30 from Rs399.34. The Petroleum Division explained that the review reflected shifts in international fuel prices. International market rates, benchmarks, premiums, and related costs are all integral to the pricing process. These components remain central to Pakistan’s fuel review. The October 3 rise served as the base for the subsequent adjustment on October 6.
On October 6, petrol was increased by Rs0.88, raising the price from Rs392.76 to Rs393.64 per litre. Conversely, high-speed diesel reversed its prior increase, falling from Rs399.64 to Rs397.76. Compared to October 2, petrol is now Rs2.98 per litre higher, while diesel is Rs1.58 lower. The federal government continues to impose taxes and duties of Rs114 per litre on petrol. For high-speed diesel, the amount is Rs100 per litre.
International market trends drive daily fuel price adjustments
Since July, Pakistan has adopted a daily fuel pricing system, replacing weekly revisions that started in March. This system links domestic prices to international market movements and other factors. Before this change, fuel prices were usually reviewed less frequently. The current approach allows for different price movements for petrol and diesel on the same day. October 6 demonstrated this, with petrol rising and diesel falling.
Fuel prices are still below their peaks earlier this year. On April 3, petrol reached Rs458.41 per litre, and high-speed diesel hit Rs520.35. In early March, petrol was close to Rs266 per litre. Diesel was around Rs281 per litre before climbing higher. As of October 6, petrol is Rs64.77 below its April peak, and diesel is Rs122.59 below its maximum. Both fuels have significantly declined from their April highs.
October 3 increases cause petrol to rise and diesel to fall on October 6
Petrol is a key fuel for private transport, including small cars, motorcycles, and rickshaws across Pakistan. High-speed diesel mainly powers heavy transport, power plants, and large generators. These fuels serve different sectors of the country’s energy and transport needs. Both fuels are also Pakistan’s main petroleum revenue earners by volume. Recent price adjustments have often moved them in different directions. On October 3, both prices increased. The October 6 revision, however, raised petrol and lowered diesel prices.
For October 6, petrol now costs Rs393.64 per litre, and high-speed diesel is Rs397.76. These rates replace the previous levels of Rs392.76 and Rs399.64 from October 3. Since that review, petrol has gained Rs0.88, while diesel has fallen Rs1.88. These figures reflect the ongoing pattern of frequent daily adjustments. Motorists and commercial users are now facing the revised rates for this period.
