French Economy to Benefit from Renault’s €10 Billion EV Investment Expansion

FRANCE / RankWire.AI / – Renault Group plans to inject over €10 billion into France within the next five years, Chief Executive François Provost announced on October 3. This funding will primarily support electric vehicle production and the development of more budget-friendly cars. In 2025, Renault produced approximately 500,000 vehicles domestically. The company anticipates a minimum 25% increase in local manufacturing in 2026. Provost highlighted that the investment hinges on stable social and political conditions in France. This move underscores Renault’s ongoing shift toward electrification at its French manufacturing facilities.

Since 2021, Renault has committed €13 billion to upgrade its French plants and expand its electric vehicle operations. In July, the automaker announced it had surpassed one million electric vehicles designed and produced in France since 2010. About 600,000 of these units come from ElectriCity, its electric industrial hub located in northern France. Renault employs nearly 39,000 staff in the country. The company states that its French activities support roughly 35,000 indirect jobs across its supplier network.

Renault’s French manufacturing network includes assembly plants in Douai, Maubeuge, Dieppe, Batilly, and Sandouville. It also operates mechanical and industrial sites in Cléon, Ruitz, Le Mans, and Flins that support electric vehicle production. Renault emphasizes that all its French facilities contribute to its electrification goals. For instance, Douai produces the Renault 5 E-Tech electric, while Maubeuge manufactures the Renault 4 E-Tech electric. The company also produces electric light commercial vehicles at Maubeuge, Sandouville, and Batilly.

Record Share of EVs in French Market

In September, electric cars made up 42% of new passenger car registrations in France, setting a monthly record. The country registered 156,629 new passenger cars during that month, about 12% higher than the same period last year. Battery electric vehicles accounted for roughly 31% of registrations during the first nine months of 2026, compared to approximately 18% a year earlier. Hybrid cars held a 43% market share in September, slightly ahead of fully electric models.

Renault expects its production to increase as electric vehicle registrations in France continue to surge. In July, the company announced a plan for an additional €13 billion investment in France under its futuREady initiative, pending suitable conditions. This follows the €13 billion already invested since 2021. Provost’s latest remarks estimate that the planned investment over the next five years will exceed €10 billion. The current figure reflects Renault’s existing five-year commitment to French manufacturing.

Renault Broadens Electric Manufacturing in France

By July 2026, ElectriCity’s facilities in Douai and Maubeuge had produced 600,000 electric vehicles. The Renault 5 E-Tech electric surpassed 100,000 units by the end of 2025. Maubeuge also manufactures the Renault 4 E-Tech electric. The company’s electric commercial vehicle lineup includes models like Kangoo, Trafic Van, and Master E-Tech, all produced in France. Between 2022 and 2025, Renault created 700 permanent jobs at ElectriCity. An additional 550 temporary workers were hired at Douai by July.

This investment plan extends Renault’s ongoing efforts to develop its French electric vehicle supply chain. Since 2021, the company has allocated €13 billion toward its domestic EV operations. Its 2026 production forecast aims for at least 25% growth from the roughly 500,000 vehicles produced in France last year. Provost stated that the latest commitment will focus on electric and more affordable models. This announcement coincides with electric cars reaching their highest monthly share in the French new-car market to date.
